Como equaled the biggest win in Champions League history as they thrashed Lens with an incredible 9-1 scoreline.
The Serie A club equaled Liverpool (Beşiktaş in 2007) and Real Madrid (Malmö in 2015) on their 8-0 record as they became only the second team to score nine goals in a Champions League game, matching Bayern Munich’s 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb on the opening night of the 202nd leg of the second leg.
Como beat Manchester United 4-1 in the previous encounter, with manager Cesc Fabregas jokingly telling his players to slow down at 4-0.
There was no slowing down in Northern France as Tasos Douvikas opened the scoring with a close range goal in the seventh minute.
Nico Paz made it 3-0 with a shot into the net.
Lucas Da Cunha struck from the bottom left corner to score the first of six goals in the second half, while Marc-Oliver Kempf later scored Como’s fifth goal.
Paz played in Douvikas to complete his hat-trick before Mattia Liberali fired home the seventh at the near post.
Ruben Aguilar gave Lens something to cheer with a fine strike from Florian Thauvin’s corner, but normal service was restored as a complex combination between Liberali and Martin Baturina saw the latter make it 8-1.
History was made as Matteo Papaccioli completed a historic defeat, with the debutant’s effort initially awarded for offside by VAR.
“Porto” defeated “Napoli”.
Porto won with less composure, but their 4-1 victory over Napoli represented one of the most impressive performances of the night.
Jan Bednarek gave Porto the lead but Scott McTominay equalized just before half-time after Kevin De Bruyne’s equalizer was ruled out for offside.
Gabriel Veiga restored Porto’s lead in the 71st minute when he fired through the legs of Alex Meret, who was left unmarked as Jakub Kivior was left unmarked for the home side’s third. The scores were tied as Samu converted from the penalty spot after being brought down by Rafa Marin, who had been sent off.
Borussia Dortmund ended Real Betis’ unbeaten start to the league campaign with a 2-1 win at Signal Iduna Park, Konstantinos Karetsas scoring the winner for the Bundesliga side.
Club Brugge won their third Champions League in a row with a 2-1 away win over PSV Eindhoven, while Viking beat Sabah 4-1 for their first win in the competition.
