Cristian Chivu feels Inter were “our best version of ourselves” in tonight’s 3-0 Champions League win over Feyenoord, but “consistency is what gets results”.
The Nerazzurri were under pressure in Rotterdam and needed to respond after losing 3-1 to Milan in the Derby della Madonnina on Saturday.
They certainly dominated here against a Feyenoord side who beat Como 3-2 and have a very strong home record.
Yann Bisseck, Francesco Pio Esposito and Piotr Zielinski were on target in a fairly comfortable encounter, with Esposito scoring another from Federico Dimarco’s cross.
It should be noted that “Inter” has been criticized for a bad start to games and has not scored in the first eight minutes since August.
Chivu sees Inter on the road again
“We have certain values, we understood certain things and put them on the pitch,” Chivu told Sky Sport Italia.
“It doesn’t mean that we haven’t done well so far this season. We tried to be the best version of ourselves, we worked today with organization, intensity and everything needed for a strong performance in a stadium that is not easy to play in.”
What did the coach mean when he said the team understood certain things?
“We always have a discussion after every game, whether it goes well or badly, we try to correct mistakes and develop our strengths. Sometimes it goes better than others, maybe we realized what didn’t go well,” Chivu said.
“The world of Inter, the club owners, the fans, we are all aware of the value of these players who want to fly the flag high, there has never been any doubt about that.”
Another recurring problem so far this season has been a lack of consistency throughout the 90 minutes, but tonight they were always in control.
“Consistency is what brings results, it gives you confidence and belief in what you’re doing, that’s what we’re looking for at the moment. This game gives us a lot of confidence in what we’ve built, so we know that football can take you down some strange paths, but you have to react and get back on the right track,” concluded the Inter coach.
The result allows Inter to move up the Champions League table, but they still have just six points from four games, so it will be a fight to the end to progress to the next round.
