CF Montreal denies the acts of violence and vandalism after Wednesday’s game.

The team said in a statement on its website on Friday that the problem arose after it lost to Forge FC of the Canadian Premier League in penalty kicks in the Canadian Championship final.

At Saputo Stadium, east of Montreal, Hamilton, Ont. after losing to his team, several objects, including pyrotechnic devices, were thrown onto the field and at security personnel.

The club also informed about acts of vandalism in the hall of the stadium.

“These actions jeopardized the safety of those involved and are strongly condemned by the club,” the statement read.

The team says it intends to investigate Wednesday’s incidents and impose sanctions against them.

“Officially identified individuals will also be banned from the stadium for life,” the statement said.

CF Montreal says the team will also beef up security at the stadium and increase police presence for upcoming matches.

“Stade Saputo must remain a safe and welcoming environment for all. Passion, frustration and criticism are part of sport. Violence, vandalism and behavior that puts others at risk have no place.”

Montreal next faces Nashville SC at home on Saturday.
