Pedro Neto hasn’t always been a favorite of Chelsea fans – he’s a frustrating player at times. But Xabi Alonso seems to have figured out how to get the best out of him and the Portuguese was praised by his manager after he scored twice against Everton yesterday.
Alonso says Neto can shine in several positions
“You can call him whatever – midfielder, full-back, striker, defender – because he can do a lot,” Alonso was quoted as saying by the club’s official website, when asked if the former Wolves man had done well due to his switch to full-back.
“Pedro has great qualities. He is always a threat, he has a great level of competition, he can run, he can play one-on-one, he can score goals.
“He’s very competitive. When he’s close to the move, he’s a threat against any defender. When he’s in the back line or in between, he connects well with the players around him, with Joao. [Pedro]With Cole [Palmer]With Josh [Acheampong] also. They worked really well and I’m happy that he scored.”
Alonso may not agree with the idea of Neto being a full-back, but he certainly has a different role in attack than he used to, and it’s doing wonders for him.
