Ghana’s Black Queens have arrived in Mauritius ahead of their first match against the island nation in the second leg of the African qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The Ghanaian side descend on Mauritius as preparations continue for Thursday’s opening game, with the Black Queens aiming to take a crucial step towards the next stage of the Olympic qualifiers.
Ghana received a bye in the opening round and then drew with the winner of the Mauritius-Djibouti double. Mauritius advanced from this contest to set up a two-legged encounter with the Black Queen.
The first leg will be played on Thursday, October 8, and the second leg will be held in Ghana on October 13.
Coach Kim Lars Björkegren has named two members of the Black Princesses into the senior squad, with Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ Rabiatu Maltiti and Police Ladies’ Margaret Agyapomaa receiving their first Black Queen call-ups.
Former Black Girls captain Mukarama Abdulai is also back in the team after a long injury layoff. The forward has previously represented the Black Queens and now returns to the senior set-up for the crucial Olympic qualifiers.
The squad also retains a strong core of experienced players, including several members of Ghana’s 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations squad.
With the opening game just days away, the Black Queens will look to build on a strong performance in Mauritius before returning home for the crucial second leg.
