Arsenal have been given another reason to focus on Julian Alvarez, with the Atletico Madrid striker making a significant change behind the scenes after failing to secure a move away in the summer.
The Gunners, along with Barcelona, were heavily linked with the Argentina international before the transfer deadline, but Atletico refused to accept a move.
Alvarez has now changed representatives and while that doesn’t automatically mean another transfer push is coming, it could be important if Arsenal revive their interest next summer.
Alvarez moves to appoint a new agent
According to Mundo Deportivo, Alvarez has ended his long-term relationship with Fernando Hidalgo after a stormy summer in which the move he wanted did not materialise.
The 26-year-old has now chosen Pablo Barquero, who also represents Rodrigo, as his new agent, and the deal is expected to be finalized soon.
Xavier Pastore’s agency and representatives affiliated with Jorge Mendes have also explored the possibility of working with Alvarez.
The switch comes after Atletico stood firm in the summer and blocked approaches for Alvarez despite being open to a new challenge.
Arsenal must continue to watch after missing out in the summer

For Arsenal, this is an interesting development rather than a sudden sign that a deal is imminent.
Earlier this month, The Sun reported that Arsenal remained interested in Alvarez after failing to sign him in the summer, with Barcelona also pushing hard for his signature.
Barcelona’s stance changed after that, with sporting director Deco making it clear they were moving on. If Alvarez becomes available again, that could potentially eliminate one major challenger.
Arsenal’s appeal is obvious. Alvarez can play as a center forward, move behind another forward or drift into wider areas. He presses aggressively, scores goals and already understands Premier League football from the magic of Manchester City.
Difficulty remains in “Atletico”. Alvarez is contracted until 2030 and will command a huge fee, meaning Arsenal will have to make him one of the biggest investments in their history.
Again, changing agents after a failed transfer is worth monitoring. If Alvarez is on the move again next summer, Arsenal should be among the clubs ready to test Atletico’s resolve.
