Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Johannes, Richards and more

French giants Lyon extended their unbeaten run to the 2026-27 season with American midfielder Lily Johannes in Wednesday’s UEFA Women’s Champions League game.

Yohannes scored his first goal of the season as Lyon beat Inter Milan 6–0 in a league stage game. The midfielder of the US Women’s National Team played the full 90 minutes in the match and scored one of the best goals of the tournament so far.

A first-half goal by Marie-Antoinette Katoto put Lyon 2-0 up at half-time before Yohannes had his say before the hour mark. Yohannes pushed Inter goalkeeper Cecelia Runarsdottir off her line, deflecting the Icelander’s shot from 30+ yards.

It marked Johannes’ first goal of the new season and first overall since April.

Vicki Becho came off the bench after Yohannes’ sensational strike to score a hat-trick in the second half to make the final score 6-0.

Yohannes finished the match with an 88% pass rate (75/85), three duel wins and two defensive contributions as Lyon climbed to the top of the UWCL table with nine points and a +14 goal difference.

Next up for the reigning Division 1 women’s champions is a trip to Montpellier on Halloween.
