Aleksander Ceferin will be elected UEFA president for the fourth term

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin will head the governing body of European football for a fourth term.

Ceferin conveyed his decision to the delegation at the meeting of all 55 national association leaders held in Berlin.

The move was highly anticipated and reversed the Slovenian’s insistence that he would not seek re-election in February 2024.

At the time, Ceferin, who was originally elected in 2016, was embroiled in controversy over UEFA changing its statutes to allow him to serve a fourth term as president.

However, there were growing expectations for the 58-year-old’s stoppage time.

This is all the more possible after UEFA began efforts to oust FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who scrapped a controversial plan to sell stakes in the governing body’s competitions to private investors following widespread protests.

Ceferin has ruled out running against Infantino himself, but is committed to finding a candidate with whom the game can unite when FIFA holds presidential elections in March.
