Former Kent and England champion Alan Brown has died at the age of 90.
The former miner from Mansfield took 707 first-class wickets for Kent in 237 games between 1957 and 1970.
Brown helped Kent win their first County Championship title for 57 years in 1970, which proved to be his final season. He is 17th on the list of Kent men’s first-class wicket-keepers.
He also won two England caps after being selected for the 1961 tour of India and Pakistan, playing one game in each country.
After being stationed in Kent for National Service in 1954, Brown’s cricket career at Canterbury came alongside a prolific non-league football career.
After interest from Arsenal and Gillingham, Brown joined Gravesend and Northfleet in 1957, converting from a central midfielder to a centre-forward, scoring 22 goals in 43 appearances over four seasons.
He also had spells at Margate, Canterbury City, Deal Town and Whitstable Town.
