Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Johannes, Thompson, et al

Two of the USA Women’s National Team’s leading stars battled this fall’s UEFA Women’s Champions League action on Wednesday.

Lily Johannes and Alyssa Thompson Both scored in the 90 minutes in the 0:0 draw between “Lyon” and “Chelsea” at the Groupama Stadium. The 19-year-old Yohannes created two chances, won two puzzles, won four duels and finished with two foul draws.

Thompson, who scored his first goal of the season last weekend, created one offensive opportunity, made three clearances and made three defensive recoveries. The 21-year-old was held in check by the Lyon defense in what proved to be one of his quieter performances in the new campaign.

Both teams remain unbeaten in their respective schedules ahead of this weekend’s action in France and England respectively.

Lyon host Toulouse in their next Division 1 Women’s game, while Chelsea travel to West Ham United in WSL action.

Elsewhere, Emily Fox It started with Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Paris FC. Sam Coffey He came off the bench in Manchester City’s home game against Real Madrid.
