Jared Verse gives Carson Schwesinger the highest compliment

The most meaningful compliments in football often come from inside the locker room. Teammates see preparation, toughness and how a player handles adversity when there are no cameras. If they go out of their way to mark someone, that usually means the player has earned it. One Browns quarterback received such recognition after Sunday’s win.

Jared Verse talked about Carson Schwesinger after the 13-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

“He’s got an old-school player mentality … He’s a hooper … He’s the most reliable person I know,” Verse said.

The verse calling Carson Schwesinger trustworthy is only fitting given the week he’s had. Schwesinger left MetLife Stadium in a walking boot after the loss to the New York Jets, missed Wednesday and Thursday’s practice and was listed as questionable on Sunday.

He played anyway and was everywhere. Schwesinger finished with 13 tackles and a forced fumble, helping the Browns shut down the Ravens over the final 3 quarters. In the last 2 games, he has 21 tackles, a sack and 2 forced fumbles.

The old-school label suits her style. Schwesinger plays low, takes on blockers and plays with an edge that can adjust in any period of the game. The league even fined him this week for using a helmet in a game against the Jets, a reminder of how physical he plays.

His path to this point only adds to that reputation. Schwesinger began his college career as a walk-on at UCLA before developing into one of the top linebackers in the country, and the Browns made him a first-round 2nd-round pick in 2025.

Todd Monken also recognized Schwesinger with a game ball after the win, one of 5 handed out in the locker room.

The only concern is his health. Schwesinger was seen heading to the X-Ray room after the game, and the Browns will be hoping the ankle injury he’s playing with doesn’t get any worse.

If he’s available going forward, the Browns have a quarterback who embodies the scrappy personality Monke has been extolling all season. Verse might have summed it up best: Cleveland knows what it’s getting from Schwesinger every week, and on a defense plagued by so many injuries, reliability may be its most valuable asset.
