Thomas Rew’s elevation to Lions captaincy is yet another sign of the high regard in which he is held by the English hierarchy.
The wicketkeeper-batsman led England Under-19s to the World Cup final earlier this year, then scored his first two first-class hundreds for Somerset in the summer.
Rew doesn’t turn 19 until November 29. If he plays in the tour of Australia, he will become the third-youngest man to debut for England in any format and the youngest to play for England against Australia, behind Rehan Ahmed and Brian Close.
Hampshire seamer Scott Currie is also part of the T20 squad. Currie, who was born in Poole, played three one-day internationals for Scotland in 2024 and his brother Brad has 39 caps for the Scots.
Scott was called up to the England squad for the T20 series in Ireland last year. Although he did not play, he was later banned from returning to Scotland for this year’s T20 World Cup as he was selected as an England substitute in Dublin.
Former England striker Jonathan Trott is in charge of the Lions’ winter tours following the departure of former coach Andrew Flintoff.
