Newcastle 0 Everton 1 finished.
Before each game, we ask one of our writers to come up with three positives and three negatives after the game.
Interesting game at St James’ Park…
There is a lot to talk about after this Premier League game.
The only goal of the match was scored against “Newcastle United” in the 49th minute.
On this occasion, David Punton:
THE POSITIVES
Narrow margin
If you want to take some sort of positive, then Newcastle United only narrowly lost.
On another night we might have been separated by a point.
Experiment with television
You had to laugh at Sky Sports coverage of this game.
A Sunderland supporter hosts and two Evertonians guest to analyze the match.
Then nice and balanced.
Marginal improvement
The second part was at least better than the first. That’s not saying much, but they’ve gotten a little better.
What we need to see is a big rise and reaction in the next game.
THE NEGATIVES
In the manager
Matthias Jaissle has to take a lot of the blame.
He was dancing on top of the pin in the postgame hook.
His players were allegedly disobeying instructions not to hit him for long periods of time.
This is not a good sign.
His team seems bland, nervous and clueless.
The club has spent a lot of money on rebuilding and many of these players are currently out of action.
He made them toothless in front of the gate and defeated them easily.
How much longer can we go on like this?
Profligation
Yoane Wissa went to glory when it was easier to pass him and touch Jacob Ramsey.
It was a night of missed opportunities.
If this continues, we will be in deep trouble at Christmas indeed.
You couldn’t make it up
The free kick that led to Everton’s goal was laughable.
Losing this game almost added insult to injury.
Speaking of which, Jacob Ramsey’s red card ended a terrible night for us. What was he thinking?
The devices we will be making in the coming weeks look pretty dangerous.
