Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was full of praise for Max Dowman’s performance in last night’s Carabao Cup tie against Ipswich Town.
The Gunners won 4-2 thanks to a brace from Dauman, who caught the eye with another performance that showed he is an outstanding young talent.
After the game, Arteta made it clear in an interview with Sky Sports that he was impressed by the 16-year-old, while also explaining that the club had a development plan for him.

“He’s outstanding and I think some of the individual things he does to change the game and influence the game are outstanding,” Arteta said.
“We understand his talent and we need to look after him.
“The talent is there and the environment around him is great. Take it one step at a time.”

“Yes (we are treating him with caution) because he is 16 years old. We need to be very cautious about it.
“We don’t want to hold him back, we don’t want to hold him back, we need to develop him and we know exactly what he needs. He’s going to have a chance to play.”
Can Max Daumann compete with Arsenal’s big-name attackers?
Dauman primarily plays on the right side, similar to left-footed players Bukayo Saka and Noni Maduek.
Last night, however, the England youth international appeared to have taken a more central role, with both him and Maddue starting for Arteta’s side.
Still, Dauman still has plenty of talented offensive options to compete with, so it will be interesting to see when he can actually put together a string of games.
There’s certainly no rush for someone so young, but if Dauman continues to make such an impression when he’s on the field, he’ll certainly feel like he deserves regular playing time like the equally talented Ramin Yamal was getting at the same stage of his career.
