The buzz around Alex Scott’s future refuses to go away and every conversation involves Chelsea.
The Blues are seriously fighting to sign the 23-year-old. Chelsea are set to return for Scott next summer when they realize Bournemouth don’t want to sell mid-season, if not in January.
Chelsea tried their luck for Scott in this summer’s transfer window. However, the Cherries have told the Blues they will not entertain any bids for their star midfielder. Sometimes clubs say that but then go back on their word – but that wasn’t the case with Bournemouth.

Bournemouth are keen on a contract extension for Scott at the Vitality Stadium, with the former Bristol City midfielder out of contract in 2028, but he has already rejected multiple offers from his employers for new terms.
It is reported that “Arsenal” and “Liverpool” are also interested in Scot. It is said that Liverpool coach Andoni Iraola, who worked with Scott at Bournemouth, intends to reunite with the England international.
Chelsea are considering a move for the central midfielder when the January transfer window opens after missing out on Scott as well as AS Monaco star Lamine Camara in the summer. Scott’s start to the season at Bournemouth only increased Chelsea’s interest.
Crucially, Xabi Alonso has instilled more intensity in his players since being appointed Chelsea manager. The Blues were heavily criticized for being too passive on the pitch last season, but Alonso has done his best to rub that out of his players in his first few months as boss.
Scott is the epitome of a hard-working, intense midfielder who, on paper at least, matches Alonso’s style to a tee. According to FotMob, Scott is fifth on the list of players who have traveled the most distances in the Premier League so far this season, with 57.7 km.
Only Everton’s Harrison Armstrong (60.4km), Brighton’s Pascal Gross (59.7km), Brentford’s Vitali Canelt (58.8m) and Leeds United’s Anton Stach (58.3km) have covered more ground in the first five matches.
In terms of Chelsea’s midfielders, Scott has excelled in this regard so far this season. It’s a little harsh to include Jordan Henderson and Moises Caicedo in such a comparison, given that the midfield duo have only made one Premier League appearance each so far.
Rhys James (36.2 km) is 156th on the list, Malo Gusto is 160th (35.2km), Romeo Lavia is 195th (29.8km) and Valentin Barco is 270th (16.1km). It’s worth noting that Scott doesn’t outperform Chelsea’s midfielders every 90 minutes.
Barco has played just two Premier League games since signing from Strasbourg in the summer, meaning his distance is just 16.1km, but he runs an astonishing 12.5km per 90 minutes. For information, Scott, one of the most energetic players of the Premier League, recorded an average distance of 11.7 km per 90.
In the early stages of the campaign, Scott played alongside Tyler Adams in the double-crore, with someone else just ahead in the No.10 role. Scott can also be used just behind the striker, but has indicated in the past that his preference is to be a No. 8 slightly further back in midfield.
In an interview with Sky Sports in December 2025, Scott was asked where he liked to play in midfield. He said: “I feel like I can play every position in midfield – number 10, number 8 and number 6, but I think number 8 probably suits me best.
“I can defend a little bit and attack a little bit. As a No. 10, you have to have that killer instinct, which I always work on. But as a No. 8, you can do a little bit of everything and be more involved in the game.
“It’s definitely something I’ve improved a lot on and I want to continue to improve on the defensive side of the game. I think it takes you from being a good player to a top player if you can do things defensively and offensively.
“Goals are very important and if you can be a goal-scoring midfielder, that’s amazing and you can contribute more to the team.
“But there’s a lot I can work on. I’m still 22 years old, I’ve got a lot of years left in the game, so I’ll keep working every day like I do in training and learning as much as I can.”
