YouTuber Ellis Platten rallies fans to fill non-league grounds and break league attendance record

YouTuber Ellis Platten has rallied fans to fill another non-league venue and hope to break the league attendance record.

Earlier this year they produced a similar video to attract fans to the Witham v Gorleston game, with 1,205 fans watching. It was a huge success.

But now Ellis Platten is trying to break the league record of 1,000, with Great Yarmouth Town’s home ground Wellesley Stadium set to host two games on October 24, 2026.

Ellis said in his YouTube video: “On March 7, 2026, we made history. This community drew over 1,200 fans to a non-league football game and broke their attendance record. We were history-makers. It was a glorious day. It was honestly one of the best days of my life.”

“You know what? We’re going to go again, but this time we’re going to do it bigger and better, but it’s going to be a lot harder.

“I need each of you to feel free to record October 24th in your diary, because this time I am back home in Great Yarmouth. This is where I grew up. This is where my family lives. Just like this is where I was born.”

“Like this place means a lot to me, but it’s also completely remote. Like it’s hard to get to. But more than anything, I want to give back to this place in the community. Like I love the fact that I’m from Yarmouth.

“But you might be thinking, Ellis, how can this be bigger than last time? Well, that’s because this time we’re not just doing one game, we’re doing two games.”

“We are currently sitting in the oldest football stand in the world. This stand is the oldest football stand in the world. We are at Wellesley Stadium, our home ground at Great Yarmouth Town, and this stand was built in 1892 and still stands today. It is the oldest stand in the world.

“However, we are here to break the record, aren’t we? The record attendance for Great Yarmouth Town’s FA Cup tie against Crystal Palace is 8,944. We are not going to break that record.

“However, we can beat the best attendance ever across the league pyramid. That’s where Game 2 comes in. That’s how the day works.

“The first game will be Great Yarmouth Town against Stowmarket Town, the club where we become Piggy. The game will start at 1:00pm. First game, 1:00pm, Great Yarmouth, Stowmarket, Piggy Battle.

“The second match is AC Mill Lane vs Shrublands and will start at 4:00pm at the same stadium. An interesting fact is that AC Mill Lane have signed three new players for the match. The pigs are all in the AC Mill Lane squad for the match. (Ellis) Platten, (Alfie) Indra, (Ben) Gibbs will be playing.

“Anyway, the record we want to break is the attendance record for the Anglo-United League, which is the league system that Milllane plays in. It’s the feeder league from Norfolk and that part of the English football pyramid.

“The Anglo Mixed League record attendance is 1,000, set by Wotton United against Norwich City in 1985, which means we have an opportunity to break this attendance record which has stood for over 40 years. The money we can make on the day for the clubs involved is huge. To be clear, once again we are not getting any revenue. The money is going to Mill Lane and Great Yarmouth Town. We see nothing. We can help these clubs significantly with their futures.

“Here’s how you can get involved. Best of all, buy a ticket using the ticket link in the video description to secure your spot. Your ticket will entitle you to two matches. Adults are 10. Under 18s or over 65s are £5. You can attend two football matches.

“On the day, we will meet at 11:00 a.m. in the North Drive parking lot across from the stadium. We will have a pig rally at 11:00 a.m. the day of the game. So be sure to be there if you want. You can also attend both games at 1 o’clock or 4 o’clock if you want.

I would be grateful if Great Yarmouth was harder to get to than the Witham video, but I would be shocked if we could accommodate over 1000 people and break the record again.

“It means a lot to us but, more importantly, it means a lot to both teams. Imagine being a player at AC Mill Lane and playing in front of a thousand people. We have the opportunity to make a real difference to these people, the club and the local community. Let’s see what we can do together as a community again. Let’s smash away days. “Yeah, guys. I just want to say at the end, we’re trying to break the amateur record in the league.

“Obviously the friendly against Norwich City had a thousand people. There may have been other attendances that were bigger but they weren’t in the league. So if we can beat over a thousand we’ve definitely broken the United League Division record.

“But, I’m going to be honest with you all, I’m absolutely terrified that no one will show up. It’s not the easiest place in the world to get to, to be honest, but it means everything to me. I’m grateful that it’s difficult for us to do this, but if we can do it, it’s going to be really special to do it again for another place, another community. We’ll be raising money for a team in town that’s in need.”

“We’re going to get big crowds to their games and then grassroots teams at AC Mill Lane’s level will never get the chance to get that kind of money and I don’t think it’s going to be something special that we can pull it off here if we can do it.

“So, please, please, I’m so proud of this community and I can’t wait to see what we can do here. Get your tickets for October 24th. Let’s do this. Let’s make history again. I’m sure it’s going to be an amazing day.”
