Man City are reportedly one of six “European heavyweights” surrounding Villarreal midfielder Moussa Kone.
African foot Marseille claim to have recently made contact with the 17-year-old’s entourage, but Cityzens, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been interested in the Spanish prodigy in recent months.
The website has previously conducted exclusive interviews with Kone’s agent, Modibo Sissoko, so their information on potential suitors is likely to be accurate.
It will be clear whether the 17-year-old player will leave Villarreal. He only signed a new contract in May, keeping him at El Madrigal until the summer of 2029.
Why do clubs think Kone is on the market?
talking to African foot The midfielder’s agent said in May that one of the main motivations for putting pen to paper on the new deal was Villarreal’s promise to integrate him into the first team.
Nothing like this has happened so far. Kone played as a substitute in three matches against Napoli, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Youth League. He came on for the last 15 minutes of Tuesday’s 3-0 win over PSG.
This latest leak of interest from other clubs may be designed to force the Yellow Submarine to select him for first-team games.
Man City cannot sign him immediately
Due to visa regulations, clubs in England are not legally allowed to sign foreign players under the age of 18. Kone is currently 17 years old and his birthday is in March.
This means that if City make a formal approach, they will have to wait until the summer transfer window to officially secure his signature.
unfortunately for Enzo Maresca‘s side, their opponents will not have to wait so long, giving them an advantage in the negotiations. We will see if Kone will leave Villarreal in the new year.
