German referee Daniel Siebert will officiate Italy’s Nations League match against Belgium, while compatriot Bastian Dankert is in the VAR booth.
The match will kick off at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico at 19.45 UK time (20.45 CEST) on Friday.
They are in the same group as France and Turkey, and this is the first game of the competition for the national team.
Siebert assigned to Italy against Belgium
UEFA has announced The referee in charge of the match was Siebert, assisted by Jan Seidl, Raphael Fortin and fourth official Sasha Stegmann.
The VAR team for this game was also German, specifically Bastian Dankert and assistant VAR Pascal Muller.
Siebert, 42, had the honor of officiating the Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal last season.
He has already supervised two Italian games before, the 3-1 away victory over Armenia in the European Cup in September 2019 and the 6-0 friendly victory over Moldova in October 2020.
His record with Belgium is a bit complicated, as they lost 3-2 to France in the Nations League semi-finals in October 2021.
However, this was followed by a 3-0 play-off win over Ukraine in March 2024 and a 4-2 World Cup qualifying victory in Wales in October 2025.
It is worth noting that Belgium scored two penalty kicks in a recent game, both of which were awarded for fouls.
