Liverpool have reportedly narrowed their January midfield search down to two names, with Bournemouth costing around £100m.
According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, the Reds have identified AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott as their priority targets for the central midfield position as they assess their options ahead of the January transfer window.
Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha is still highly regarded at Liverpool, but he is not considered a priority at the moment.
The club are closely monitoring both Camara and Scott, and the value of each potential deal could be crucial as they look to strengthen the center of the pitch.
Alex Scott Liverpool transfer: What does the Bournemouth midfielder have to offer?
Scott continues to thrive at Bournemouth and offers Premier League experience alongside his technical quality and versatility. The England international could be particularly attractive given his familiarity with the demands of English football.
The catch is money. Bournemouth would reportedly be willing to consider selling Scott for around £100m, meaning Liverpool would have to make a significant financial commitment to secure his signature. Bournemouth are now believed to consider a sale if the Reds are willing to pay that, which could give them a clearer path to a deal.
His Premier League experience will also ease the uncertainty surrounding overseas recruitment. We previously looked at the Bournemouth players Liverpool could sign and Scott was part of that conversation.
Lamine Camara Liverpool: Monaco alternative
Camara impressed in Monaco with his energy, defensive work and ability to develop possession, making the Senegal international an attractive option in the middle of the park.
He will need time to adjust to a new league, but his athleticism and defensive contribution could make him a strong fit. If Monaco are willing to negotiate for a fee close to half of Scott’s reported valuation, Liverpool could strengthen their midfield while saving funds for other positions.
Where does Felix Nmecha fit into Liverpool’s midfield plans?
Nmecha remains an alternative, but Plettenberg’s update suggests the German is not at the top of Liverpool’s agenda when considering their next midfield additions. He shouldn’t be completely ruled out, although Liverpool have other priorities for now.
Author’s review: Who is Liverpool’s more realistic signing?
Both players seem realistic and the decision could come down to how much Liverpool are willing to spend. Camara may offer better value, while Scott may be a simpler Premier League signing.
Paying around £100m for a player who is still developing is a huge investment, especially when you consider other areas of the squad such as Liverpool’s right-back. Scott’s versatility and technical quality are attractive, but the club must ensure he deserves this award.
Ultimately, Liverpool’s next move will depend on their budget, assessment of each player’s potential and whether they are willing to compromise on the demands of Bournemouth or Monaco.
