The big news from Xabi Alonso’s press conference today is that Joao Pedro will be out for a few weeks.

It’s dire news – but the manager has followed up by confirming summer arrival Emmanuel Emegha is fit and will be “in the squad” to face Liverpool tomorrow.

“Of course it’s important that we have him. He’s been training well for the last 10 days to improve his fitness. Maybe he has a chance to play tomorrow,” said the always flirtatious Alonso.

Emega expected to make his full Chelsea debut this week

We can’t say we expect too much from a guy who has barely completed 90 minutes once in the last 12 months and is yet to play a minute of English football this season or in general.

But it looks like he’s about to get his chance, and if he seizes the opportunity, it could be a life-changing moment for him.

We’re not sure if he’ll start against Liverpool tomorrow, but either way, it won’t be long before we finally see him in action for Chelsea.

In other news…

Alonso confirmed that JP’s injury will rule him out for a few weeks – although he was as vague as ever.

Saturday’s loss was more than just a three-point loss. It was a very worrying step backwards for the team.

Another Chelsea player who has been criticized for his performance against Tottenham is Maxence Lacroix.
