The Los Angeles Kings lost Quinton Byfield to injury on Tuesday night against the Washington Capitals. The game was tied 2-2 at the time and there was a ton of pressure on Los Angeles to see it through. Darcy Kuemper and his teammates did just that.

On Tuesday night, the Kings led a three-run third period to victory. Star winger Adrian Kempe scored twice for Los Angeles in this competition. Kuemper was solid in goal, making 30 saves on the night. After the game, the veteran goalkeeper said that he finally got his first win of the year.

“I don’t think it’s unusual for teams to go on losing streaks throughout the year, but at the beginning of the year it builds up and it feels worse for us,” the Los Angeles goaltender said, via NHL.com. “It feels really bad. So it’s nice to get the win and now we just have to roll.”

Kuemper personally did not start the season well. After Tuesday’s win over the Capitals, he has a dismal .869 save percentage. However, it’s hard to argue with the performance. He was a rock for Los Angeles and won games when his team needed him.

As the veteran netminder said, Los Angeles needs to build on that performance. Putting a few wins together certainly changes the narrative and gives Kings fans a new hint of hope for this season. They have a chance to make it two in a row when they face the New York Islanders on Oct. 22.
