Inter Milan not getting much from Premier League signings

Inter Milan’s summer strategy has been to bring in players from the Premier League in an attempt to get closer to Europe’s giants, but the early returns have been meager at best. Only Curtis Jones saw meaningful playing time. His performance has been mediocre la Gazzetta dello Sport Report.

Djed Spence has yet to play as he came on with a minor muscle injury. He is severely lacking in fitness after not taking part in Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-season games. He will return after the break but will have to perform well to replace Andy Diouf, who has been very consistent so far.

John Stones made several appearances, mostly as a substitute, but suffered a thigh injury on his first start. His appearance did not improve Inter Milan’s defense, which was full of holes in the previous games. He should be available for the game against Parma in two weeks’ time, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Jones is the crown jewel Nerazzurri strategy. They courted him for several months before agreeing a deal with Liverpool. He played the most minutes among the rookies, with a total of 152 minutes. He was trusted from the start against Real Madrid and Roma, but he didn’t make an impact in any of the games.

Our thoughts on Inter Milan

It’s early days, and Spence in particular should prove to be very useful, but he still has a lot of work to do before he can properly replace Denzel Dumfries in his prime. Still, they’re not exactly recruiting real stars. There’s a reason these players are available in the first place. A learning curve is to be expected, but perhaps expectations should be tempered.
