Haji Wright will be out until November at best

Haji Wright missed the opening part of the English Premier League season and is likely to be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Wright is not expected to play for the rest of this month, Coventry City manager Frank Lampard confirmed at his pre-match press conference on Friday. The American forward has been sidelined for club and country since the 2026 FIFA World Cup after picking up a quadriceps injury in Coventry City’s camp.

Wright was predicted to be out for weeks to months with the injury, leaving the newly-promoted Sky Blues in an uneasy spot ahead of their return to the EPL.

Wright’s injury has forced the Sky Blues to bolster their attack by signing Taiwo Awoniyi and Sidiki Cherif before the deadline.

Lampard did not give an official time frame for Wright’s return, but said he could be back in November at the earliest.

“Haji won’t be back until November at best and I don’t want to put pressure on him because it’s an awkward injury,” Lampard said.

Wright, 28, played just two minutes for the US Men’s National Team last summer, despite helping Coventry City win the EFL Championship last spring.

Wright scored 18 goals in all competitions for Lampard and was named the league’s Team of the Year. He has scored 49 goals in 124 games for “Smavilar” since arriving from Turkish club “Antalyaspor” in August 2023.

Coventry City resume Premier League action against Newcastle United on Monday before closing the month with Tottenham, Fulham and Sunderland.
