Things are looking better now with these Newcastle United injury updates.
Matthias Jaissle said in his pre-match press conference for Coventry City on Thursday: “We’re hoping three or four of the nine missing against Hull City will be back.”
It should be noted that Jaouen, Dedic, Ramsey, Elanga, Osula, Gonzalez, Burn, Livramento and Joelinton were unavailable for the 2:1 victory over Hull City. Plus, Lewis Miley made an early return to Tyneside from England Under-21s with an undisclosed injury problem.
We’ve already learned that Matthias Jaissle has given away very little in his pre-match press conferences so far during his time at Newcastle United.
Now there’s a good chance the NUFC boss was playing things down a notch when he suggested “three or four” could return to Monday’s matchday squad.
Matthias Jaissle revealed on Thursday that Joelinton and Nico Gonzalez are two of the Newcastle United players set to return from injury at Coventry City tonight.
After the international break ended, the club posted a lot of footage from the first team training session on social media, and both Gonzalez and Joelinton were really heavily involved.
But what about the other eight Newcastle United players who are injury doubts?
For starters, with Lewis Miley, of course, it seems that there is nothing serious, he was also very involved in training.
William Osula is the same in training, hopefully he will be available again tonight.
Amar Dedic has also been seen in training footage, although not featured as much as the others, he is more of an unknown but certainly a possibility.
Six of the ten now with injury concerns is Jacob Ramsey in recent training footage. So, like Amar Dedic, there is another opportunity to return to the matchday squad. If it wasn’t for the game against Coventry City, it certainly looks positive now against his old club Villa on Saturday.
As for the other four…
Ewen Jaouen will definitely not attend tonight, Thursday Matthias Jaissle: ““Ewen Jaouen will be out of action for two months due to injury.”
Also missing are Anthony Elanga and Tino Livramento, neither of whom appear in any training footage, certainly not from what I’ve watched.
It leaves each other.
Before the international break more than three weeks ago, United captain Dan Burn said: “My recovery is going well. I’m not in the squad anymore so I’m just walking around and building up. The international break is helping so I’m not missing too many games and if everything goes to plan I can get back to that first game after the break.”
But from what I’ve seen of the club’s released footage, zero sign of the Big Lad from Blyth. So it doesn’t look like Dan Burn would be in tonight if it weren’t for this elaborate ruse.
Overall, a more positive picture for Matthias Jaissle than before with his team and bench options.
